The late Stephen Hawking with Director Errol Morris during the making of “A Brief History of Time”

It seems the universe is having a break from knocking off our favourite musicians, and has decided to take one of our most favourite and easily recognised scientific minds – the Genius Professor Stephen Hawking.

Stephen Hawking made many appearances through pop culture, from TV Shows to Led Zepplin songs, Advertisements, and even Star Trek

Yet it was his book ‘A Brief History of Time’ that stayed for 237 weeks on the Sunday Times best seller list. Director Errol Morris turned the book into a film, which won two awards at Sundance in 1992, and also picked up a Golden Space Needle award at the Seattle International Film Festival the same year

Since working with Hawking, Errol has made numerous films, and won plenty of awards, including an Oscar in 2004 for his feature film – The Fog of War: Eleven Lessons from the life of Robert. S. McNamara.
The same McNamara that feature in our documentary – The Most Dangerous Man in America.

In 2010, his exceptional documentary TABLOID was nominated for the Cinema Eye Audience Choice award. Debuting at Cannes, the film was one of the most anticipated of the season. Telling the bizarre story of Joyce McKinney, a beauty queen who, when left by her Mormon lover, tracked him to the U.K., where believing he had been brainwashed, she kidnapped him, becoming a British tabloid favourite in the meantime. It’s one of those stories that you wouldn’t believe if it hadn’t actually happened, and Morris is on top form as he examines every side of the “Rashomon“-esque tale. The “Rashomon” effect is named after Akira Kurosawa‘s 1950 film Rashomon, in which a murder is described in four mutually contradictory ways by its four witnesses.
