What the news doesn’t tell you about Israeli Behaviour

We at Antidote Films abhor the illegal behaviour and violence of the Israeli army against innocent civilians in the Occupied Territories. We support those who, like the Palestinians depicted in our film, BUDRUS, use non-violence as their weapon of choice to resist the constant and illegal encroachments onto their lands.

This morning, we received a distressing message from Julia Bacha, the Director of our film Budrus

She had received a message from Iltezam Morrar, a relentless nonviolent activist from the village of Budrus and one of the protagonists of our 2009 film, Budrus.

“Iltezam told me that late last night, as the family returned from her cousin’s graduation party, Israeli soldiers broke the lock on their front door, stormed their home, and arrested her father, Ayed, and her brother, Ahmed. (click here for article)
Iltezam demanded to know why they were being arrested and asked for a warrant. Instead, the soldiers took them away, blindfolded, without explaining where they were being taken or why they were detained. This is an all-too-common procedure in the West Bank, where Palestinians are regularly denied due process under military law. I can’t imagine the fear in that uncertainty — to see one’s family taken away in the dark of night, blindfolded, and with no sense of when they may return. ”

This morning, Israeli human rights lawyer Gaby Lasky found out that the two were arrested under suspicion of “incitement.” The Just Vision team has known Ayed for many years, and we know that the only thing Ayed and Ahmed have ever “incited” is strategic nonviolent resistance.

The reality is that incitement is a common charge against activists, and it reveals a simple truth: Israel aims to silence and criminalize all forms of opposition to its military rule in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

Julia has been in regular contact with Iltezam in the past 12 hours and is doing what she can to support Iltezam and her family. Public attention matters in these situations, and we hope that you’ll share about the arrest with your networks. Local Call (in Hebrew) and +972 Magazine are covering the story and will be following it closely. Meanwhile, we’ll be pushing the story far and wide to ensure that Ayed and Ahmed return home soon. We hope you’ll do the same.

Antidote Films wants to know whether this story, like many other stories about Israeli behaviour towards the Palestinians, will be told in mainstream media.
As film distributors we do what we can by informing you of other films you can watch, in order to, as Noam Chomsky says, “take a course in intellectual self-defence

Occupation of the American Mind
A must see documentary that shows how the propaganda war conspiracy is being played out.

Marc Lamont Hill, CNN political analyst and host of HuffPost Live said this about the film

“Amazing! Brilliantly exposes how American media is an active partner in the ugly and illegal occupation of Palestine. By promoting inaccurate narratives of self-defense and disguising the true stakes of the crisis, the State of Israel is able to garner sympathy and solidarity at a moment where it deserves outrage and critique. This is a must-watch documentary for anyone interested in understanding the truth of the Occupation and the failures of Western journalism.”

Is there a media propaganda war?

The issue of controlled media is complex, and a rabbit hole that is more akin to a black hole.
Oliver Stone weighed in on the issue (click here) when he was making his Award Winning Documentary series – The Untold History of the United States.
There is even a hidden rumour (click here) that The Boston Globe coverage of the Catholic Church Abuse Scandal (retold in the movie Spotlight) was the result of the Jewish media control, and their pushback against the Vatican – which they claim is anti-Israel and pro Palestinian.

Dr Kevin Barrett – An American PhD on Islamic Studies and Radio Personality also asserted that “Zionist Controlled Media is stoking the flames of Islamophobia” (Click here)

This one you can’t watch online unfortunately, but you can still buy the DVD. It is one of those few films that shows a side to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that you don’t get to see on the nightly news.
Budrus is an award-winning feature documentary film about a Palestinian community organizer, Ayed Morrar, who unites local Fatah and Hamas members along with Israeli supporters in an unarmed movement to save his village of Budrus from destruction by Israel’s Separation Barrier. Success eludes them until his 15-year-old daughter, Iltezam, launches a women’s contingent that quickly moves to the front lines.

Trapped between Israel and Egypt and ruled by the Hamas, a young generation is drawn to the beaches. Sick of occupation, war and religious fanaticism they have found their own means of protest: surfing, breakdance and parkour. Hardly anything gets into Gaza and even less gets out. The young generation is growing up with very little perspective – occupied and jobless. But against this background there is a small movement.

Could a regional love of hummus be the recipe for peace in the Middle East? This was the question on director Trevor Graham’s mind when he set out to film Make Hummus Not War, a documentary about the Middle Eastern conflict you don’t see on the nightly news.

One of the oldest-known prepared foods in human history, hummus is claimed by multiple Middle Eastern nationalities. So when Graham, a self-described hummus tragic, learned of a 2008 Lebanese plan to sue Israel for acting as if it had proprietary rights over the dish, he was intrigued and hungry for more.

The Gatekeepers tells the story of the Shin Bet, perhaps the most active and certainly the most secretive of Israel’s security forces, and it tells it from the perspectives of its leaders who, more than anyone, received the trust of the country’s political elites. In a series of candid interviews, they talk openly about the major events that marked their tenures. At their most intimate, six former heads of the Shin Bet muse publicly about the morality of torture and terrorism, arrests and assassinations. The citizens they swore to protect may have been safer as a result of their actions, but was the country any closer to peace?
